The Facts Behind Invisalign®

Although you may have heard of Invisalign, we're sure you have several questions. Whether you are considering the treatment for yourself or someone else, we will guide you through the process. At the Louisiana Center for Restorative Dentistry, we realize it is a big investment and we hope to clarify any questions you may have.

Step 1

First, you have to select an Invisalign® Preferred Provider, and we at LACRD can provide this service for you. Our dentists have received the proper training and can effectively evaluate your needs. They will determine how Invisalign® can benefit you. Our dentists will decide if this treatment is right for you. Also, they can answer any questions about costs, insurance, and any other concerns.

Step 2

Second, once you decide to receive the treatment, our dentists will take x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. These create a digital 3-D image of your teeth. Our doctors will then formulate your treatment plan. It shows the precise movements of your teeth. Our dentists will also be able to show you how your teeth will move with each stage of the process.

Step 3

Next, based on your treatment plan, you will receive customized aligners. The aligners are made from a comfortable BPA-free plastic.  These will not irritate your cheeks or gums, like traditional braces do. These are worn throughout the day. They are removed whenever you eat or brush and floss your teeth.

Step 4

Each set of aligners gradually shifts your teeth into place. About every two weeks, you will wear a new set of aligners. The sets advance the next stage in your treatment. Approximately every six weeks, you will have a meeting with your dentist. They will evaluate the progress of your treatment.

Step 5

Finally, every case is unique to every patient.  For adults, the process takes about one year. The length of treatment for teens is comparable to metal braces. Best results come whenever you wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day throughout your treatment.
